Health & Safety, the new release from Seeami nails the "year's last day at the beach" vibe. This music seems to revel in the sadness of knowing that the fun can't last forever. Wellington, New Zealand's Henry Thompson continues the sound he established earlier this year with The Age of Empire, his C22 on M. Sage’s Patient Sounds: simple songs recorded at home with electric guitar and Casio keyboards. Health & Safety sees the addition of acoustic guitar and more varied synth textures, but leaves intact the basic project of the first cassette, channeling a fascination for the murky romance of the pre-digital era inherited from the strain of British music populated by Boards of Canada, early Bibio, and the Ghost Box crew into beautiful, bummed-out instrumentals. “Insulation” introduces the tape’s relatively subdued B-side.
A collection of songs written in July & August 2014.
